A casino will be constructed soon in Navajo. Navajo Nation President Joe Shirley Jr. said, "If everything falls into place, we will see our first casino in short order."
"We're almost there," He said. Shirley is anxious to tell the committee that an agreement on a casino was in place to get it financed.
"The Hospitality Enterprise is here ready to present to you a proposed plan of how this would come to be and some expectations that surround that. There's enough ground there to have a temporary structure.
The Navajo people said,'Let's have gaming. Let's have casinos.' Since they've said, since they've employed that legislation, we've been working diligently. I think we're well on our way now to see the first facility," the president said.
A temporary casino site is to be built, located at Navajo Travel Center, Exit 325, in Navajo along Interstate 40. The proposal is to build six casinos in place, they are looking at anywhere from 50 to 60 to 100 acres per site. While the permanent casino will be constructed at the Pinta Road exit.
Shirley said, "In the next couple weeks we'll probably come together and bring in a developer. We need to start working very tangibly and very hands-on."
